Why USB device not recognized?

Sometimes it happens that you connect a USB device to your system and it shows "Unknown device". There may be several reasons for showing this.

Virus Infection:
First of all check that you system may not be infected with virus/spy ware/malware/adware because sometimes they also create problem for USB connectivity.

check USB connecting wires:
the front USB ports on your PC case may be misconnected. It's good to check the wire connections of USB port. The correct order of connection is Red, White, Green, and Black. only four wires are required per USB.

Device driver:
If windows is unable to recognize the device, try installing the driver yourself by inserting driver CD or windows CD. sometimes required drivers are not automatically installed on your system.

Power for device:
few devices require extra power to work properly, In this case if the USB is shared then it cannot provide required amount of power and device may not work.

Defective device:
You USB device may be defective. try using it on some other system.

Scanner is a well known device used to scan documents but some times the scanned documents are visible enough or rough image is scanned. This is because your scanner is dusty and need to be cleaned.Fortunately you can clean your scanner yourself very easily.

Cleaning a scanner :

  • unplug the power cables and data cables attached with scanner
  • remove the external dust from body
  • clean the glass of your scanner with any optical cleaner fluid
  • Use tissue paper or soft cloth to clean the sensitive part of the scanner.
  • don't try to open the screw because you cannot fix it as before
  • for better result repeat this cleaning process after every two months

by having the core system kept in memory.
It will disable the memory used by paging execution and eventually your memory will rise.

Set the value to be 1

Computer CD-ROM is a sensitive device and it need great care to open and clean it. Normally they work good even having fair amount of dust on their lens but it can stop working when dust on the lens is more then enough. It can create two problems.

- Skipping/ Repeating CDs

- Taking time in reading CDs

in this case you should make it sure that your CD-ROM need to be cleaned.

Take following steps to open the CD-ROM:

  • Take the CD-ROM out of CPU box
  • Open the try of the CD-ROM and remove the front cover of the try.
  • When try cover is removed you can removed the other cover on which play and eject button are situated.
  • Now open the screw

Almost in the middle of the machine there is a lens you can see it from the bottom of the CD-ROM. There is a small screw which holds the lens you can adjust it to fix the lens. some times this screw is lose and lens cannot perform better. now take tissue paper and very softly clean the lens. Always use blower to clean other parts of CD-ROM. After finishing this job tight the screw and place the cover as it was removed. You will definitely see difference in CD reading

Disable or Enable Auto run CD

Some times you may be irritating when suddenly a CD window pop up or a video begins to run as the CD is inserted. You can enable or disable auto run CD depending on your nature of work by making a simple change in registry. In user interface mode there is no option to disable or enable this feature and you must edit the registry of windows and be careful to work registry.

Click Start button then type regedit in Run option then press Enter for next.
Here locate the location to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdrom
Here you can disable or enable automatically running your CD.
Change the value of Autorun to 0 for disable and change the value to 1 for enable.
After finishing editing you must restart your computer to see the effect of changes.

Click Start Button then click run, type regedit in Run dialog box and click OK button. Here you can backup the whole Registry or you can locate the required sub-keys that contain the information that you want to edit.

Go to File menu option then click on Export option for backup and save it with on any your system drive with . Reg extension and you can restore this backup going File menu using import option.

How to fix hard drive problems

  Hard Disk

If your computer is creating problems to read/write on the hard disk or may become unstable then it is possible that some lost clusters and bad sectors are on your hard disk. To check your computer hard drive for any errors, you can use scan disk utility. You should scan your hard disk on regular basis to maintain the status of missing cluster and bad sectors. In windows 2000 and XP, you can use the error-checking tools to check the health of your hard drive. 

Follow the given steps to run the error- checking tools:

  • First open the My Computer then right click on any drive that you want to check.

  • On the right click menu select the Properties option.

  • Here select the Tool tab then run Check Now in the Error-checking dialog area.

  • Under check disk options you can select both check box ”Automatically fix file system errors” and “scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors” then press Start button.

  • This test will prompt you, if there is any problem on your hard disk and automatically fix it now.

    Your hard drive may be running slow because there are useless garbage of files that you need to clean. There is a free utility that is called best disk cleaner software. It is wise enough to clean all the unnecessary files while saving necessary files. 
    In case your important files are deleted or if you want to recover previously deleted files which were also removed from recycle bin you can also recover them by How to recover deleted files.
